"A Janky Toucan" and "A Toucan & The Robot"
I have two, let's call them, "musical projects": "A Janky Toucan" and "A Toucan & The Robot"
"A Janky Toucan" is regular me, having fun and trying new stuff and residing mostly in this world. They are allowed to reference and talk about our world directly.
"A Toucan & The Robot" is a fictional Band of a fictional universe, similar but not the same as ours. Therefore they aren't allowed to reference our world and universe in anything but metaphor,
they can't because they don't live here.
Both experiment in a wide selection of genres, often leaning to the electronic new wavey side, are often a bit sad but also a bit silly. You can find all my music on Bandcamp.
A FLOWERS JOURNEY
My third Album, released August 15, 2020, and still one of my favourites. Despite its many rough edges it is the first Album where I managed to capture the vibe and story I was aiming for,
it was a big leap forward in my musical abilities.
While still overly reliant on loops in some places and shy mixing, the compositions are lush and intricate and have an energy and flow previous efforts didn't quite achieve.
My favourite by far is "Flow Away" I find it to have an effortless playfulnesses about it.
The whole album is still very much amateur though, but unlike my now unavailable Album "Time Travel" it doesn't try embarrassingly hard.
But enough of me tooting my own horn, give it a listen yourself here.
THE FOLDED CITY
My second Album, released December 18, 2020, was an attempt to break free from loops and atmosphere in search of catchy melodies and song structure.
The result is very messy and in some places quite stiff but I almost managed to create an intentional mood in some of the songs.
Some songs way overstay their welcome, "The Disco of Decadent Flamingos" does not need to last almost six and a half minutes. Other efforts I find to hold up, however,
"Emergency murder" is a piece I still enjoy quite a bit, and "A Sandwich for the Boss" is still very funny to me, mostly because I imagine an overly dramatic
over stylised sandwich making sequence when I listen to it.
I still appreciate the album, mostly because it gave me a lot of tools for later Albums. You can listen to it here.
THE NUMBERS MAFIA
My first Album, released August 15, 2020. After the world and my life ground to a halt in early 2020 I found myself feeling quite bored, next to other emotions, and decided to install the free trial of Ableton Live.
The resulting music is simplistic, repetitive, barren and amateurish and I still like it quite a bit. It gave me a new hobby and served as the gateway to explore my musical taste, and still serves
the story I tried to tell quite well. It has a unique gloomy mood only a first effort can have that I hope to recapture one day.
You can listen to it here.
